Remember when finding comfort school meant investing in a few notebooks, a new box of crayons, and new shoes? Should you wore a uniform to school, you probably got some of those too; otherwise, you got one or two new outfits. That has been it.

Well, times have changed. The availability list now contains items which was previously provided by the schools – like scissors, glue and tissues. Every child uses a new backpack, notebooks, paper, pens (red, blue and black), glue sticks, ruler, tape, scissors, markers, folders plus a calculator. If you have two children and you also shop the sales, you’ll probably still turn out paying out over $100.00 in supplies alone. And that doesn’t even count the new clothes your kids “has to have” or fees that are required for art projects, lab costs, etc.

Don’t even get me moving on the supplies, including furniture and appliances, your youngster needs for college. Should it ever end?

1) Recycle – Check to see everything you curently have at home. You almost certainly have assorted crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc. lying around your home. Put these together inside a pencil box and that will save you a couple of dollars.

2) Re-use – Kids believe last year’s backpack has to go, but a quick trip over the automatic washer may give it new life.

3) Reduce – Does your youngster have a very notebook from recently which includes three pages of written material inside it and 77 blank pages left? Did you find this notebook from the trash – or worse – the trash? Now’s a great time to go over waste and keeping it as small as possible by letting one of the most use possible from every item.
