Whitewater Kayaking and Rafting in Nepal

Once you think about Nepal, whitewater Rafting and Kayaking aren’t the initial issues that spring into mind, well at least it wasn’t to me. More probable images of Kathmandu, rice paddies, Everest as well as the mysterious Himalaya pop into the head. So you can imagine my surprise when I got a chance to Nepal and finished up rafting and kayaking over 10 times!

When you in Thamel or Pokhara (the main touristy area’s in Nepal) you can find travel agencies all around us, and i also immediately decided rafting was something I needed to do during my in time Nepal. The very first decision to produce is which river to go on. Nepal offers most of the worlds best rivers, including a gently flowing river to some of the fiercest whitewater on the globe. So determined by your experience and thirst for adrenaline, there’s definitely something for anyone! The most suitable times to go are between March-June or September-October; although trips will run throughout the year the river will likely be at its highest, fastest, and quite a few exhilarating over these months.

Selecting a company to choose can be a lttle bit tricky though! There are plenty of travel agents lining the streets, however, choosing one relating to the other is practically impossible…All of them offer virtually precisely the same prices, nearly a similar trips and promise the best time in your life! However there are many of companies available, it’s a shame to express which can be just after your dollars. It is very important discover a registered company who have safety process in place. I ended up going with GRG’s Adventure Kayaking. Having met kayaking in Nepal , the corporation owner, once or twice around Thamel I trusted he would deliver what he promised, after doing some research I ran across he is currently the best Kayaker in Nepal, having only won the Himalayan Championship to the second time, I felt I needed made the right decision and could be in safe hands.

Your journey for the river was amazing by itself. Coming out of the valley you happen to be greeted with a more traditional way of life. Women working hard within the rice paddies inside their saris, looking more glamorous than I possibly could ever achieve! Children carrying their books on their own heads walking over the highway to college; Gorgeous mountains without anyone’s knowledge; Random Buffalo dotted all over the scene to name only a few things we saw on our journey on the river. After Two hours of staring hypnotised the window we reached a small village prepared for all your rafting needs. There was clearly a little shed (rather like usually the one imagine Mary and Joseph stumbling upon! ) to get changed in, toilets, tea, biscuits, water, all you need prior to starting each day around the river!

When reaching first point, I realised I had made the best decision in going with GRG’s. There were about 20 rafts aligned and waiting to choose various companies and ours was the only person with any safety kayakers. You can view where GRG’s got their logo ‘SAFETY FIRST’ from!

And also this maybe it was, Maila as well as the team got everyone suited and booted in life jackets, helmets, (with regards to the weather, splash jackets were available) after a very informative safety talk we had arrived off! Immediately greeted by our first rapid, aptly named ‘Good Morning’ as that first splash in your face and down your T-Shirt definitely awakens you!
