I suppose that because you are reading this, you want to utilize hypnosis on yourself and perhaps on others also. That is the case, you’ll need a clear thought of what hypnosis is. In upcoming articles, we are exploring what hypnosis is within three ways:
with the lens of history
investigating how great hypnotists like Milton Erickson and Dave Elman defined hypnosis
over the lens of science
For now, I wish to provide you with a simple, understandable, and clear description of hypnosis is. So here it is:
Hypnosis can be a naturally occurring psychological procedure that when used deliberately makes positive using relaxation, strong concentration, and also the imagination.
Each time a body’s capable of skillfully create concentration, induce relaxation, and stimulate the imagination in oneself while others, the result could be powerful! It is similar to creating a “virtual reality simulator” inside the mind. Let’s check this definition somewhat deeper.
A Naturally sourced Psychological Process
You should understand right at the start that there’s nothing magical or mystical about hypnosis (although hypnosis can be utilized in combination with spirituality). Essentially, hypnosis is usually a simple psychological process. All of that therefore happens when the brain/mind could be forwarded to go through the right steps, then every person (except for those that have brain damage or individuals with severe mental handicaps) may go into hypnosis.
Truth be told people enter hypnotic trances every single day without getting alert to it. Several types of everyday hypnotic trances:
“Zoning out” while driving. Ever make an expedition to a familiar location and realize upon your arrival you don’t remember fondly the trip when your mind was absorbed elsewhere?
Daydreaming. This often occurs you’re thinking about the next project or event, recalling a past event, or simply letting your mind drift. You are able to become so absorbed because inner reality that you do not realize what’s going on in your outside environment.
Reading a unique book. Have you ever found yourself enraptured inside a book where the author seemingly is developing a movie in mind? Maybe you were even identifying using the character(s) or feeling certain emotions (like excitement or anger) in regards to the fictional events happening inside the book.
Getting engrossed inside a movie. This can be similar to reading an appealing book which is occasionally more hypnotic due to really your physical senses being stimulated as well as your imagination (a real sight and hearing). Sometimes it is possible to become so fixated on the movie that two hours of watching it only appeared like a few momemts!
Becoming deeply involved in an interesting conversation. This will happen if you are talking to someone of a subject that you will be very thinking about or listening to a charismatic public speaker.
Sexual fantasies. Yes, I said it. Most hypnotists would avoid talking about this. However, sexual fantasies is usually the most effective trances that humans enter into, because sex is such a basic human drive and want. Additionally they show us how powerful hypnosis might be, because if we become engaged in an intimate fantasy “trance,” it can affect our emotions as well as our physical bodies! (Note: We’re going to enter erotic hypnosis and seduction hypnosis somewhat at a later date down the road!)
