There are no obligatory immunisations for travellers to Kyrgyzstan although you should be up-to-date on Typhoid Tetanus, Polio and Hepatitis A. It is advised to ask your local GP for advice on best immunisations as well as preventative treatments.

Food and beverages

Kyrgyzstan’s food is primarily based on rice and meat. There are plenty of other choices for vegetables and salads. You can try local cuisines as you travel, often overlapping with other cuisines.

Central Asia has a laid relaxed way of life Islam. This is the first thing you must be aware of while traveling in Central Asia especially in towns and cities. You’ll be shocked by the length of skirts that women are in cities like Bishkek! It’s a Muslim zone, therefore it is crucial to be aware in certain places. Both genders are allowed to wear T-shirts and shorts. However, when visiting mosques, women must cover their shoulders in trousers or skirts. The males should avoid wearing shorts.

With around 15% of the population embracing Islam, 80% of the people are Islamic.

Kyrgyzstan was one of the two former Soviet Republics in Central Asia that retained Russian as their official language. In the 1990s, Kyrgyzstan was declared to be a multilingual country, with Kyrgyz as an additional official language. Additionally, you will find Uzbeks from the ethnic group and Tajiks in certain parts of Kyrgyzstan because of the previous Soviet policy.
